FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

If something here is unclear or missing, ask us directly. We would rather tell you before you pay than after.

Getting started

Do I need a credit card to use the free tier?#

No card, ever. It is not a trial that quietly turns into a bill. It just stays free. We can afford it because a free server sleeps when nobody is playing, so an idle world costs us almost nothing to keep around.

What is the catch with the free plan?#

Two things, and we would rather say them now. It sleeps when nobody is on, so the first person to join waits a few seconds for it to wake. And it is small: 1 GB of memory, about five players, one backup kept rather than three. What you do get is the same fast processor and the same NVMe storage as the paid plans, plus the full console and file manager. It is a real server, just a little one.

Do you host anything other than Minecraft?#

Discord bots, Python or Node, from $3 a month — but they are not open for signups yet and the bot page explains exactly why. Websites we do not offer, and have not built. If you are unsure whether what you want to run fits, ask us and we will tell you honestly.

Is it SnowServers or Snow Servers?#

Both. The company is Snow Servers and the domain is snowservers.com, written as one word because that is how domains work. You will see it spelled either way and they are the same people. If you are searching for us, snowservers.com always gets you here.

Can I switch plans later?#

Yes, either way. We lift or lower the limits on the server you already have, so your world, plugins, settings and address all stay put. Only catch going down is that your files have to fit in the smaller plan.

What happens if I cancel?#

It runs to the end of the month you already paid for, then pauses. Nothing is deleted straight away, so you get time to grab your world and backups first.

Performance

Why do you talk about CPU so much?#

Because it is the thing that decides whether your world feels smooth. Twenty times a second your server has to update everything at once, and it gets 50 milliseconds to do it. Miss that and you get the skating mobs and the hits that do not land. Extra memory cannot give that time back. A quicker processor can.

So RAM does not matter at all?#

It does, just differently. Too little and your server stalls or crashes outright, and big modpacks genuinely need plenty. But once you have enough, more does nothing for smoothness. So we give each plan enough for what it is meant to run, and spend the rest on speed.

How many players can actually join?#

The numbers we list are what each plan comfortably handles, not a number picked to look good. It genuinely depends what you run though. A plain survival world fits far more people than a heavy modpack on the same plan. If you are near the edge, go one size up.

What does "no slot cap" mean on Blizzard?#

It means we do not set one. Your 10 GB of memory decides it instead. For plain survival that is a lot of people. For a heavy modpack, fewer. We would rather tell you what actually limits it than print a number like 'unlimited' that nobody can stand behind.

Running your server

Which server software can I run?#

Paper, Vanilla, Forge, Fabric, Spigot, Purpur and proxies such as Velocity and BungeeCord. Modpack installs are available on Frost and above. If you need something unusual, ask. Adding a server type is generally straightforward.

Do I get full console and file access?#

Yes. A live console with full command input, a browser file manager, and SFTP credentials. You can edit any config, tail logs, and upload or download whatever you need. Nothing is hidden behind a support ticket.

Can I use my own domain?#

Yes, and it is worth doing. Point your domain at the address we give you and people join at something like play.yourname.com instead of a string of numbers.

How do backups work?#

Your whole world is copied once a day, automatically, on every plan including the free one. Paid plans keep the last three copies, free keeps the most recent. Rolling back is a single click and takes seconds — griefed spawn, bad plugin update, an experiment that went sideways, all fixable before anyone logs off. You can also take a backup yourself any time, and download it whenever you like.

Security & privacy

What happens if I install a dodgy plugin?#

It is contained, but we will not pretend it is caught. Your server runs in its own container with its own filesystem, so a bad plugin can wreck your world and reach nothing else on the machine and nobody else’s files. What we do not do today is scan what you upload or restrict where your server can connect out to, so a malicious jar could still misbehave inside your own server. Both are on our list, and we would rather say that than let you assume a net is there. Stick to Modrinth, SpigotMC and CurseForge, and keep a backup before installing something you are unsure about.

Can other customers see my world?#

No. Your server has its own container and its own storage, so nobody else on the machine can read your files or reach your world. On the processor, every server runs under a hard ceiling it cannot exceed, which is what stops one busy world dragging down the rest — it is a cap on each server rather than a reserved share held empty for you.

Do you look at my files?#

No. Uploads are checked automatically against a list of known-bad files. That is a computer comparing fingerprints, not a person reading your configs or wandering through your builds.

Where is my world actually kept?#

On one machine in Virginia that we rent outright. We run everything on it and no other company's customers are on it, so nobody is bidding against you for it. Backups run daily on top of that, and a second copy held off the machine is on the way.

Billing

How does billing work?#

Paid plans are charged monthly or annually through Stripe. Annual billing charges ten months up front, so two are free. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never touch our servers.

Do you offer refunds?#

If something on our side is broken and we cannot fix it, we will refund you. If you simply change your mind, cancel and you will not be charged again, and there is no minimum term.

What happens if my payment fails?#

We retry and email you. Your server keeps running through a grace period rather than dying the instant a card expires. Only after that does it suspend, and it is still not deleted straight away.

Still stuck? Send us a message and a person reads it.

Ready to try it?

The free tier costs nothing and runs on the same cores as everything else.
